About Bandtag

Bandtag was the brainchild of music freak and self-confessed internet nerd, Erin Wheatley.

Launched in May 2008, Bandtag is a revolutionary way for artists to connect with their fans, and sell/promote their music online. Though the concept is well established overseas, this is a new innovation for Australia.

It was early in 2007, that artist manager and all-round music industry type, Erin witnessed first-hand the frustration artists faced in making a living out of their music. “Selling your music and increasing your fanbase are two key elements to attaining success in the music industry.” she explains, “Yet neither are easy to achieve in a market challenged geographically, which is also facing a downturn in physical CD sales. Of course, the upshot is that its never been a better time to play gigs or tour - the live scene is booming!”

This is where Bandtag steps in, it is a simple concept, which bridges the physical and digital divide. Bandtag allows artists to connect with their audience and promote/sell their music, wherever and whenever they like. And it allows fans intimate, unique access to their favourite bands and music, after the gig. Put simply, Bandtag is “the easiest way to take the band home”. You just tuck them in your pocket!

“When the brain behind Bandtag says “it’s a concept destined to change the face of the Australian music industry”, it’s no exaggeration – Bandtag acts as a bridge between the live space and the digital world. The Music Network, 27th August 2008

So … how does it work, you ask?

It’s so simple! An artist creates their own personalised Bandtag by providing artwork, information and of course, the music. We then create a Bandtag webpage especially for them, upload the content and get the cards printed. Bandtags look like a PVC business card with the band’s artwork on the front, and each is imprinted with a unique code on the back. Artists then give away or sell the cards to punters at gigs. Fans can then redeem their cards over the Internet. The log into the Bandtag website, type in the code on the back of the card, enter their email address and postcode, and hey presto - up comes the band’s webpage. Here they’ll find tunes, art and info ready to save and download to their iPod, music player, whatever. The band gets the fan’s details for their marketing/touring database while the fan gets all the goodies. Everybody’s happy!

Best yet - it’s inexpensive for artists. Cheaper than a CD run, with no on-going fees, Bandtag offers a new, innovative and potentionally quite lucrative way to distribute music. There’s no loss of copyright, the artist is in control at all times and it’s a safe and easy alternative to get your tunes where they count - in the hands of the fans!

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination . . .

Bandtag your new single. Bandtag live tracks. Use Bandtag as an add-on to your existing CD’s and merch. Use it as a VIP pass for big gigs. Use Bandtag instead of a CD, or do both for maximum impact. Bandtag your East Coast Tour or International tour. Labels can Bandtag all their artists for one easy promotional device. The more you think about it, the more ways there are to make Bandtag an effective tool in your marketing campaign. Why not Bandtag your hot new single and use it as an insert in trade magazines? Festival promoters - Bandtag is perfect to promote the festival experience, whether given out with the tickets or handed out on the day. Bandtag your next music event or showcase - just like we’re doing for the Big Sound music conference.

Remember, you collect demographic info on anyone who redeems the card, adding ongoing value. Getting your fan’s email addresses is priceless in today’s market.

But wait, there’s more!

The beauty of Bandtag is that the concept works brilliantly for a whole range of promotional, business and creative endeavours.

We like to call it BRANDTAG.

Brandtag your festival. Brandtag your film. Brandtag your FMCG product.
